An Invitation to live the life you have always wanted

Each day we have a unique opportunity to live the life we have always wanted. Each morning we have choices we get to make and while ONE choice to wake up early to pray, or to work out will not magically transform our lives, if we remain consistent in making decisions that align with what we truly value over time we will begin to see the changes we have been hoping, wishing and even praying for. The issue is our perspective! How we view the seemingly mundane, day to day tasks. I found myself excited to begin my workday tomorrow.  If I can be honest,  I am not always excited about beginning work. Tuesdays are LOOOONG days for me but something has shifted in my perspective.  Tomorrow I have an opportunity to do something I absolutely enjoy (somedays love)…point people in the direction of healing. Not only that but being a therapist is funding the things that I LOVE to do, the vehicle I enjoy driving, the house and neighborhood I love to live in as well as the lifestyle I am able to help to provide for our family.  How many times do we look at all the negative thoughts and feelings attached to our daily tasks. I have to go to work tomorrow and fold the clothes, clean the house, pay bills ect.  The truth is that these are not always pleasant tasks.  Sometimes they are down right unenjoyable. But. I want you ask yourself this one question. What would my life look like if I simply chose not to complete the task? Would my life change for the better or worse? Now don’t consider a ton of hypotheticals. I want you to truly consider if you stopped doing the thing you believe you hate or the thing that makes your day difficult to enjoy, how would this impact your overall wellbeing. This is the thing, if you do this and you say my life would be better if I didn’t do “this” then by all means stop it immediately. But IF, after making an honest assessment you identify refusing to complete these tasks would make your life more difficult... That means this is something that is necessary for daily functioning AND it would greatly benefit you to challenge your negative perspective. My Pastor spoke about FINDING joy in areas of difficulty and that is exactly what we need to do in many instances. But in others, we need to begin making moves and decisions that line up with where/who we truly desire to be. One thing I have learned as a therapist is that sometimes we know what we should do, however we are avoiding temporary pain. There are times we have to submit to pain temporarily for long term gain, success, or progress. I can’t tell you how many times I have observed someone avoid making a decision that would cause temporary pain but in weeks, months or years to come that would greatly benefit them. For some it is avoiding going back to school, others it may be leaving a dead end job, ministry or relationship.  Whatever IT is, I want to encourage you to challenge yourself to begin making decisions that in the long run are going to cause you to live the life you have been dreaming about. It is in moments like these, we are not waiting on God but He is actually waiting on us.  So… the ball is in your court. What are you going to do with it? #batterup
