We have a tendency to conceal what is in our heart, especially when things come up we don’t particularly care for. I’ll be honest there have been times that the things that have come “up” or “out” of my heart that have really caught me by surprise. It is never the “good” things that are surprising to me! It’s the things like anger, bitterness or even resentment that I often times want to conceal. I don’t know about you but I believe I do this because these things do really align with who I believe I am or desire to be. So, instead of taking a moment to examine why this is coming up for me I can be honest in that I will try to push these feelings away versus truly taking the time to process why they are there in the first place. Truth of the matter is, when the hidden matters of the heart surface, it is because IT IS ME! It may not be who I am in totality, but it is certainly a part of me that needs to be examined, healed or addressed. There are events in our lives that God allows in order to reveal to us what is truly in our hearts. In Mark 7:15 The Bible says, “It is not what goes into your body that defiles you; you are defiled by what comes from your heart.” It may not be bitterness, anger or resentment for you, but the next time something surfaces that you are tempted to hide, take it as an opportunity to deal with what has been hidden in your heart. These are beautiful opportunities to flourish!
